What Is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a treatment which uses essential oils for physical and emotional well being. Essential oils are powerful extracts from flowers, herbs, spices, grasses, resins or bark and are used for their medicinal properties. Holistic aromatherapy aims to boost emotional and physical well being by facilitating our body’s natural ability to balance and heal it self. There are a number of reasons why you might want to consider having an aromatherapy massage:
- Emotional upheavals and illnesses
- Muscular aches and pains
- Digestive issues
- To take some time out to relax
- To increase body awareness
- Depression and anxiety
- Circulatory problems
- Self care
Massage is one of the most popular and enjoyable ways of applying essential oils and an aromatherapy massage is a wonderful way to relax and re balance. There are however other ways in which you may want to use essential oils which include diffusing them, in the bath, or as a compress for pain or roller balls to aid sleep and anxiety.
The treatment will begin with a health consultation and with the client I will choose a bespoke blend of essential oils which are specific to your emotional and physical needs. The oils are chosen very carefully with you and are diluted into a carrier oil such as almond oil or grapeseed oil, taking into account any contraindications .The bespoke blend is then massaged into your skin using traditional massage techniques together with lymphatic drainage techniques and acupressure leaving you calm and relaxed.
The dual benefits of essential oils and massage offers a very effective way of healing the body and can also help to manage and support the symptoms of many physical conditions. These include neck and shoulder problems, muscular aches and pains, headaches and migraines, hormonal imbalances, digestive problems, skin conditions such as eczema and lowered immune systems. Aromatherapy is also an extremely effective way to cope with stress which can be the cause of many physical conditions. It can also provide support to individuals suffering with mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety and depression .
I also use organic essential oils within my nurturing Reflexology treatments. You will be able to inhale the therapeutic aromas of the essential oils as you receive your treatment, and your skin will be able to absorb the blended oils to enhance your well being.
