Why learn to meditate?
It is well known that taking care of our physical health includes eating a good diet, regular exercise and self care. Whilst these things are necessary it is also important that we also, take care of our inner world and focus on our mental and emotional health. Unfortunately modern lifestyles are making this more and more difficult. Life has become increasingly over-complicated and we often end up running on autopilot.
When the mind is operating from a constant state of overdrive, it can put excessive pressure on mental and physical health, leading to an over-reliance on stimulants like caffeine, sugar, alcohol and junk foods to constantly boost energy levels. Meditation offers a whole range of benefits for the mind and body, which are rooted in our ability to find stillness and reflection within our lives. Meditation is a practice which gently encourages the mind to focus upon something; whether that’s the breath, body, an object or a visual, to cultivate awareness, calm and compassion. The development of a meditation practice is a skill which in time will improve health, happiness and mental and physical well-being.
