What Is Reflexology?

I am a fully qualified Reflexologist working in Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire and surrounding areas. I am a full member of the Association Of Reflexologists (AOR) (MARR).

Reflexology is a gentle, non invasive therapy which is suitable for all ages from newborns to the elderly in helping to restore the body’s natural balance and rhythm. It works on the principle that every organ and system in the body has a corresponding reflex point on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. The stimulation of these reflex points is designed to bring about a shift, or a re balancing of energy levels and thus well being. Above all it is deeply relaxing.

In all of my treatments I work incorporating Chinese Medicine Theory including the Five Elements. this gives me a tool to focus the body’s energetic patterns in a supportive way. It incorporates many of the techniques used in a conventional treatment but with greater emphasis on particular reflexes and Chinese medicine acupressure points. I can incorporate Mindfulness Reflexology techniques which are aimed specifically at supporting and reducing stress, anxiety and depression.

Reflexology does not diagnose, treat or cure illness, but it supports each individual as a whole, promoting relaxation and improving well being. Each Reflexology treatment is bespoke and is tailored to each individual and provides the much needed time and space to relax and unwind. the treatment it self is extremely relaxing allowing and encouraging the body to begin the process of self healing. Some of my clients choose to have Reflexology weekly and some monthly. Clients often tell me that they have a feeling of improved well being, improved mood, calmness and relaxation and improved sleep.

As a Reflexologist I specialise in women’s health and in particular stress related conditions, Fertility, Pregnancy, the Postnatal period and everything Hormonal. I have completed additional training in maternity Reflexology with midwife Suzanne Enzer and Sally Earlham (maternity specialist Association Of Reflexology). I have also trained in a specialised form of Reflexology for Fertility and conception called Reproreflexology and I am a member of the Association Of Reproreflexologists.  I have  completed additional training in Facial Reflexology.

What are the benefits of Reflexology?

An individual’s good health depends upon the fine balance of many systems of the body. Feelings of stress, tension and anxiety can have a negative effect upon the endocrine and cardiovascular system and may lead to stress related illnesses. Reflexology is powerfully relaxing and it offers much needed time out from the stresses and strains of life. It can help with the following:

  • Creates a state of deep relaxation
  • Reduces stress and anxiety
  • Relieves pain
  • Helps the body to return to a state of balance and well being
  • Boosts energy levels
  • Improves the immune and circulatory system
  • Maintains good health by helping towards preventing illness
  • Helps to relieve insomnia

Many people find that even after one treatment session they feel more relaxed, they sleep better and feel more energised. It is however advisable to have a course of sessions, between four – six to truly benefit from Reflexology.

My approach to Relexology

The first treatment will start with an initial confidential holistic consultation which will include a detailed medical history, together with information about diet and lifestyle. This information will enable me to devise an effective personal treatment plan. You should allow 90 minutes for this first treatment, and 60 minutes for subsequent treatments.

During the treatment you will lie on a treatment couch, there’s no need to undress…just socks need to be removed. I have lots of cushions and bolsters to help you to feel comfortable and relaxed. It is lovely to use the treatment time to un-wind and to be able get away from the stresses of daily life. Many people find that after a treatment their tension is reduced and that they feel more grounded. People often report that they sleep better and that their mood and sense of well being has improved.

Reactions to Reflexology treatments

  • Often people experience a sense of well being and deep relaxation
  • Sometimes there may be a feeling of tiredness, tearfulness, mild headaches, or even the need to go to the toilet more frequently
  • These are normal reaction and Reflexologists believe that these are all part of the healing process and will usually pass within 24 to 48 hours

Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to medical advice
