The word Reiki means universal life energy and it is a from of energy healing which originated in Japan in the 19th century and is based on the idea that energy flows through us interrupted and creates a sense of balance and harmony within the body. Blocked energy which is often caused by stress, illness or injury can have a negative impact upon our health and well being.
Reiki works on a deep level and it aids relaxation whilst promoting emotional and mental and spiritual well being. The practitioner places their hands on or over the client and moves around the body. It is believed that energy flows through the practitioners hands to the client and finds its way to areas of imbalance.
The client may feel warmth, coolness, a tingling sensation, waves of energy or nothing at all during a treatment and most clients report a feeling of deep relaxation following the treatment.
Reflexology is a gentle, non invasive therapy which is suitable for all ages from newborns to the elderly in helping to restore the body’s natural balance and rhythm. It works on the principle that every organ and system in the body has a corresponding reflex point on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. The stimulation of these reflex points is designed to being about a shift, or a re balancing of energy levels and thus well being. Above all it is deeply relaxing.
Combining Reiki And Reflexology
When these two treatments are combined in one session, it can be very beneficial. Reflexology is used to target known areas of physical or emotional discomfort and the Reiki takes the treatment to a much deeper level. As a Reflexologist and Reiki practitioner, some Reki will always be added through the feet even when only Reflexology is given. When the treatments are deliberately combined the relaxation is often much deeper and the response to treatment may be much quicker.
Taking time out to focus on self care is always extremely beneficial and it can help to lower our stress levels and promote emotional and physical well being.
