During pregnancy you may have difficulty in getting to sleep and staying asleep, even when you may be feeling extremely tired. Anxiety, excitement about your pregnancy and baby, fear about the labour and your increasing size may make it difficult to become comfortable at night.
How To Get A Good Night’s Sleep
Try taking a nap during the day which will help you to top up on the sleep which you may have lost during the night. If you have young children try putting your feet up when they are sleeping. If you are at work try to get away from your work space at lunchtime and go outside for some fresh air
Try to get some gentle exercise everyday such as walking or swimming. Establishing a bedtime routine which includes some relaxation such as reading, listening to music and a warm bath will help to relax your mind and will help with the production of the sleepy hormone melatonin.
Talk to your GP if you are experiencing pregnancy related symptoms which may be making it difficult to get to sleep such as back ache or sciatica, carpel tunnel syndrome, or sinus congestion
Keep your bedroom ventilated and not too warm
Clinical Aromatherapy And Insomnia
Insomnia in pregnancy may be treated with clinical aromatherapy massage, or by applying one drop of citrus Limon (lemon) or citrus Bergamia (bergamot) to a tissue under a pillow case (do not apply directly to the pillow case in case of potential eye contact) or by relaxing in a bath to which has been added one drop of Cananga odorata (ylang ylang), Cupressus sempervirens (cypress) is both calming and is a neurotonic. Fatigue may be relieved with Citrus limon (lemon) and citrus paradisi (grapefruit). Anthemis nobilis (roman chamomile) or Citrus aurantium var amara (neroli) may alternatively be place in a room spray or a few drops added to an oil boiler
