Winter Essential Oils

 

Winter  is now really drawing in the nights are dark and the fires are blazing! Essential oils can be used to reflect the change in seasons and an aromatherapy massage can be a great antidote to the gloomy weather

The essential oils all have very different properties with some being warm and spicy while others are more energetic and stimulating which is something we all sometimes lack during the cold winter months.It is important that we look after ourselves by eating a healthy balanced diet and getting outside for a walk to make use of the limited daylight hours.

All of the essential oils which have been listed are safe to use in pregnancy but it is important to always refer to a qualified aromatherapist IFPA if you should have any concerns

Warming Essential Oils

Ginger – zingiber officianale

Ginger is a well known warming oil, which is particularly beneficial for tired achy muscles. It is also great for increasing energy levels

Coriander – coriandrum sativum

Coriander is a lovely warming essential oil which helps to ease tired muscles, great after a winter sking holiday!

Skin Care

Skin tends to become very dry and  during the cold winter months and central heating dehydrates the skin even further

The following essential oils blended together with a base oil such as almond oil or grapeseed oil will help to nourish and re hydrate the skin. Chamomile therapies would be able to create you  an organic  bespoke blend of nourishing essential oils which could either be a body or facial oil

Rose R. damascena

Rose has excellent emollient, softening and hydrating properties which, accompanied by its stimulating and antiseptic properties, make it an ideal for all skin care especially dry or sensitive skins

Lavender lavandula angustifolia

Lavender is a nourishing essential oil which is suitable for treating skin conditions such as eczema

Neroli citrus aurantium var. amara

This is a beautiful oil which has enormous nourishing benefits on dry skin and it may also help to deter stretch marks

Lifting The Winter Blues!

A room  burner  or diffuser can really help to lift the mood in the dark winter months. Citrus oils are fantastic in helping to lift the spirits and they also are energising

Try putting 2 drops of Lemon, citrus limonum with 2 drops of Sweet Orange citrus sinensis in a burner for a truely uplifting experience!

These are a few suggestions of how to use essential oils during the long cold winter months, but of course there are over 70 essential oils to choose from all of which have different therapeutic properties
