Reflexology & Aromatherapy

History Of Reflexology

Modern Reflexology is based on an ancient form of therapy. There is evidence that a type of foot therapy was practiced in China as long ago as 4,000 BC and in Egypt 3,000 B.C. which was depicted in a tomb painting near Cairo. Chinese medicine dates back many 1,000’s of years and  uses pressure points on the hands and feet to heal the whole body holistically which is physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally. Qi (Chi)  in Chinese medicine is also known as vital energy and it is believed that this is needed for life.

About Reflexology?

Reflexology is a safe and  natural complimentary therapy  which is usually practiced on the feet. It is non invasive and totally natural and it is suitable for all ages from newborns to the elderly in restoring the body’s natural balance and rhythms. Reflexology is a way of relaxing your body and mind and it may help to reduce stress and anxiety. It can help to unwind the mind and it has a “grounding effect” on all the systems of the body. It can be incorporated into a busy lifestyle as part of a coping strategy with the effect of a calmer mind and a less achy body.

The body is made up of energy and when the whole body is in balance then this energy is able to flow freely. Life can at times be stressful which can lead to the interruption of the lovely flow of energy which if not relieved may result in an emotional or physical disorder

How Does Reflexology Work?

Reflexology  works on the principle that every organ and system has a corresponding reflex point on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. The Reflexologist will use light or stronger pressure on the Reflex points of the feet or hands which mirror the organs and systems of the body. The stimulation of these reflex points is designed to bring about a shift, a change or a re balancing of energy levels and thus well being. The treatment will be unique to each person but above all it is very relaxing.

How Many Reflexology Treatments Do I Need?

As everyone is different Jackie will be able to advise you as to how many treatments you will need. A course of treatments can be tailored to suit you and this can be discussed during your initial consultation.

If you are experiencing specific symptoms then the standard course of treatment would be once per week for 6 weeks and then a maintenance programme of reflexology treatments may be advised. For prevention, general balancing and relaxation the frequency can be less.

What Is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is a treatment which uses essential oils for physical and emotional well being. Essential oils are powerful extracts from flowers, herbs, spices, grasses, resins or bark and are utilised for their medicinal properties. I work with over 70 different organic essential oils, thus ensuring that each individual clients needs are being met. The oils are mixed with a carrier oil and are massaged into your skin using traditional massage techniques together with lymphatic drainage techniques and acupressure and hot basalt stones leaving you calm and relaxed. I am able to combine if required deep tissue massage to target areas of muscular tension

I am a qualified aromatherapist (IFPA) and I use organic essential oils within my nurturing reflexology treatments. You will be able to inhale the therapeutic aromas of the essential oils as you receive your treatment, and your skin will be able to absorb the blended oils to enhance your well being.

I also offer a bespoke aromatherapy back, neck and shoulder massage combined with either Facial Reflexology or Foot Reflexology, together with pregnancy and postnatal massage.

A full consultation will be taken at your first appointment, this will enable me to to choose the best essential oils for you.
