Reflexology For Cancer Support

Living with a cancer diagnosis can have an enormous impact upon physical and emotional well being as the side effects from treatment such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery can take a huge impact upon our health and well being. Reflexology  is a very safe  non-invasive form of therapy which can be  an alternative to traditional massage for those who prefer to avoid full-body touch. As the individual does not need to undress it can be ideal for those who would find it difficult to reposition themselves or who can not be touched in certain areas of the body due to treatment, surgery or pain.

About Reflexology?

Modern Reflexology is based on an ancient form of therapy. There is evidence that a type of foot therapy was practiced in China as long ago as 4,000 BC and in Egypt 3,000 B.C. which was depicted in a tomb painting near Cairo. Chinese medicine dates back many 1,000’s of years and  uses pressure points on the hands and feet to heal the whole body holistically which is physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally. Qi (Chi)  in Chinese medicine is also known as vital energy and it is believed that this is needed for life.

Reflexology is a safe and  natural complimentary therapy  which is usually practiced on the feet. It is non invasive and totally natural and it is suitable for all ages from newborns to the elderly in restoring the body’s natural balance and rhythms. Reflexology is a way of relaxing your body and mind and it may help to reduce stress and anxiety. It can help to unwind the mind and it has a “grounding effect” on all the systems of the body.

Reflexology  works on the principle that every organ and system has a corresponding reflex point on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. The Reflexologist will use light or stronger pressure on the Reflex points of the feet or hands which mirror the organs and systems of the body. The stimulation of these reflex points is designed to bring about a shift, a change or a re balancing of energy levels and thus well being. The treatment will be unique to each person but above all it is very relaxing.

You will then  remove your shoes and socks and  lie on a comfortable couch supported with pillows and cushions to ensure that you feel that you are in a comfortable position for the treatment.

Relaxation: The treatment is bespoke and thus created to promote relaxation and a nurturing time for yourself and may  incorporate some Breathe Work,  Meditation and Reiki  to enhance the effects of the treatment.

Length Of Treatment: The treatment time may vary dependent upon the needs of the client. The usual hands on treatment is 60 minutes but this may need to be adapted dependent upon where they are in their cycle of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, if you are feeling exhausted and depleted due to treatment then the treatment time may be adapted accordingly.
